It has been made from compressed wheat bran
Anyone in need of an
eco-friendly picnic set need look no further, as Miriad Products has just launched an innovative range of compostable and edible tableware essentials, starting from just £2.99.
Designed by Polish company, BIOTREM, the collection features bowls, cups, plates and cutlery made from compressed wheat bran — a material commonly used in the cereal milling process. It’s an incredibly planet-friendly material as it takes just 30 days to fully break down, instead of the whopping 500 years it takes for a plastic plate to decompose.
All of the items are suitable for both hot and cold meals, as well as being safe for conventional ovens or microwaves. Whether you’re heading out on a picnic or dining alfresco, the sustainable items can either be eaten or, alternatively, placed in the green bin where they will break down.
"At Miriad we support those who enjoy adventuring in the wider world. We are committed to helping everyone in the leisure industry to reduce their impact on the environment," Penny Whitelock, Managing Director of Miriad Products, says.
"To do this we looked at how we could support our customers in making greener choices. The answer was by making it easier for them to access eco-friendly products. Biotrem is a complete eco-friendly option, from the product, the packaging and the production.
"By stocking Biotrem’s unique biodegradable, disposable, wheat bran tableware we are supporting our customers eco-conscious decisions. The tableware range has been successfully tested and certified for food safety."
We’re all doing our part to protect the planet, but have you considered edible tableware? It certainly is one way to add some excitement to your picnic. Take a look the range below…
